Everything you need to know about the Pilgrimage from Oxford to London
Monday 4th September to Monday 11th September 2023
Registration is now closed for overnight accommodation, but you can still register to be a day pilgrim.
What?
A walking pilgrimage from Oxford to the EXCEL centre in London. Walking for peace, in protest against the arms fair, and against our government’s complicity in the arms trade.
Date: Monday 4th – Monday 11th September.
We will gather in Oxford on Monday 4th, then walk from Tuesday 5th arriving at the DSEi Arms Fair, at the EXCEL centre on Monday 11th. This is the eve of the arms fair opening
The route will be
5th Sept: Oxford to Watlington
6th Sept: Watlington to High Wycombe
7th Sept: High Wycombe to Rickmansworth
9th Sept: Rickmansworth to Wembley
10th Sept: Wembley to Westminster
11th Sept: Westminster to the EXCEL centre
We are still looking for offers of hospitality and welcome along the way, if you live near the route please get in touch.
Accommodation
In order to keep the pilgrimage as low-cost as possible we will we welcomed by individuals and groups along the way. Accommodation is likely to be a mixture of floors and/or private homes.
Similar food will mostly be provided by people along the route.
Cost
We have received some generous donations from supporter organisations. Our hope is that the pilgrimage will be free for walkers, however we may need to ask those who are waged to pay a small amount, we will be able to give a more accurate assessment of this nearer the start date.
Who is welcome?
We want to welcome as wide a group of people as possible, but a certain level of fitness is needed to be able to walk the route. The first few days will be cross country walking, the later days city walking. We will be covering between 10 and 15 miles each day.
We’re will have support cars available to carry overnight bags, and to give lifted to tired pilgrims.
Under 18s are welcome to join us during the day time, but will not be allowed to stay overnight.
Under 16s will need to come with a responsible adult.
Do I have to walk the whole way?
We welcome those only able to join us for a day or two along the route.
