In 2023 a small group of like-minded individuals came together to talk about walking pilgrimages for peace, and as an act of witness against the arms trade.
From these discussions Peace Pilgrimage was launched, that same year we organised our first multi-day pilgrimage, from Oxford to the Excel Centre in London, in witness against the DSEI arms fair.
Subsequentially in 2024 we organised a second longer pilgrimage from Malvern to Telford, in witness against the SDSC-UK arms fair.
Peace Pilgrimage exists to organise and support walking pilgrimages for peace. Both those we organise ourselves, and those organised by similar groups and organisations.
Our pilgrimages are not attached to any particular religious or spiritual tradition, but many of our pilgrims are; we aim to be as open and inclusive as possible, reflecting the practices and spiritualities of those who walk.
Why Peace Pilgrimage?
In the midst of this fast and frantic world, full of violence and war, to set out on foot on an adventure of deep spiritual intention may seem a very strange thing to do. Why not just get in the car or hop on a plane?
By slowing down, we give ourselves space to breathe and time to access the deepest parts of ourselves, the parts that are so easily forgotten in the busyness of daily life. By walking on foot, we remind ourselves of all the beauty that surrounds us and reconnect with some of our essential human wildness. By setting out on an adventure, we open ourselves to growth and new insights as we walk with the powerful intention to sow seeds of peace in our world!
Pilgrimage has been going on for as long as humans have been around, and by becoming peace pilgrims we reconnect with this ancient past, reminding ourselves of our true essence as human beings.
Who are we?
